Petrol heads from all over the country have descended en mass today to witness the 59th annual 2011 Autorama Detroit event where hundreds of the finest custom cars and hot rods will be on show.
The World of Wheels Cavalcade of Customs promises to be a fantastic spectacle which inevitably inspires drivers of ordinary cars to get busy in their backyards and start to transform their ordinary looking automobiles.
American’s have of course had a long standing love affair dating as far back as the fifties, with custom cars and building sensational hot rods which are simply sensational hand made works of art and where else better to showcase such gorgeous machines than the famous motor city itself.
This year’s spectacle will also include a glittering array of custom bikes and vintage race cars for the serious enthusiasts.
Customising any car takes enormous patience, time, skill and of course money and even a decent custom spray job can set you back a cool $10,000.
The favourites this time around would appear to be a 1939 Ford Convertible and a stunning 63 Buick. The winner will be judged on Sunday and will take home the prestigious Ridler Award.
